There were 70 windows in total. Most of the windows were tall and narrow, forming part of large bays with stone mullions. Therefore, it was necessary to find the most slender solution possible. The Awan family considered many options but settled on Panoramic’s Slenderline 31 system.
Process
With Slenderline 31 as the frame of choice, it was now necessary to establish that the stained glass could be restored to an acceptable standard. A comparable sample was salvaged from another project and sent for restoration. This restored sample was presented to the Awan family and accepted. These we integrated into double glazed units so the Awan family could continue to enjoy their period glass but benefit from the thermal efficiency of double glazed units.
Finally, the frame colour needed to be settled upon. There was significant debate among the family between white and black. In the end, Panoramic photographed their home, inside and out, and photoshopped new windows into the openings for comparison. Black won the day.
Outcome
Once installed, the Awan home had a completely new feel. The thermal efficiency of the new windows was immediately apparent, and the bay windows looked much larger and impressive from the outside. Also, the black frame added an attractive key line to the view into their garden and beyond from within their home. Speaking to Mrs Awan after the installation she said: “you were absolutely right, black was the perfect choice, we are delighted with them.”
